In her "How pig parts make the world turn" TED talk (July 2012, www.ted.com), Dutch artist Christien Meindertsma exposes the 185 ways a pig is used; from soap and toothpaste to bullets, cheesecakes and even an artificial heart valve.
I once read that the worst thing that ever happened to pigs was to get to China. Chinese culture is famous for being extremely creative and efficient in finding a good use for almost everything, including the poor pigs. Since early ages, they take advantage of every single gram of pigs and other animals, with the idea of scarcity running in their veins. As Meindertsma evidences, this millenarian practice has been modernized, industrialized and extended throughout the world.
